Dear "Acid" - excellent response, and, I am so glad you passed the sanity test. Of course, we are all a little bit nutso, else we might bore ourselves to tears.

Use any criteria, the research team simply did like "sandwich said" they interviewed mental patients in 5 major college towns, then they interviewed that same number of people on the street, then of all things they interviewed and equal number of street people (a supposed norm of half and half nuts)

I trust my mother, a few friends. With a large amount of aspects in my life. However I have no choice but to trust the majority of society. When i drive a car i put trust in others they won't crash into me at 150mph drunk in their brand new Ferrari. I put trust in society and humanity all the time. I don't have a choice and neither do you.

What corollary was that? Trusting people are nuts or Not trusting ones? How did they find that out, by studying 50 mental cases' reactions to being lied to? Or by simply asking around?
Scientific data and statistics seem to keep progress at a standstill nowadays. Just too vague and based on flaws. Any idiot can go round asking people then mark results of a limited group of people's response as a percentage!
60% of students wear red. I just looked round the room.
Besides, what trust are we talking about? Do you mean trusting a stranger with a wallet full of cash or trusting the next person to call an ambulance if you fall unconscious?
Do you mean someone helping you if you need a loan or not poisoning you to get your shoes?

Well, there are levels of trust, or is it absolute all or nothing? I find this question difficult to answer without further qualifier, but then, I'm an engineer ;)
The deepest level of trust is reserved for my mother and my two best friends. I afford everyone a basic level of trust until proven untrustworthy. Colleagues and acquaintances have their own form of trust, and friends above that, then (some) family, etc.
Trust is a complex thing.

My three sons.
In all honesty, I'm a little too trusting. I rarely distrust anyone until I'm given a reason. When that happens, it is very difficult to earn back my trust. I do trust myself, but I am given to impulsiveness and don't always make the best decisions, especially where finances are concerned.
May I ask what it is exactly that scientists have discovered?

2 Corinthians 1:9 - But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead:
2 Corinthians 1:10 - Who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us;
2 Corinthians 1:13 - For we write none other things unto you, that what ye read or acknowledge; and I trust ye shall acknowledge even to the end;
