Aside from many other pollutants in rivers, there's a little thing called Giardia. It will hit you like a mack truck. You should purify any water you take from rivers or creeks.

I wouldn't recommend it. I did a research paper last year on Rachel Carson and the environment. You wouldn't have believed how many chemicals have been dumped into the Hudson River up through the 1990s. The chemicals were so bad that the Federal Government has outlawed their use. They caused many problems in the fish and wildlife, but also in humans. Those chemicals take a long time to get out of the water. Therefore I wouldn't drink it at all. (Up in the mountains by Canada the Hudson River water is probably ok.)

Yeah, if you are a dog! I don't know anything about the Hudson river, but that sounds weird. Why would you want to drink water out of there like a dog? Is it a dare? If so... YEAH... do it... and let us know if you survive.

i think of it particularly is okay as long as they do no longer drink a ton of it each and all the time, and assuming the river you talk of isn't strangely polluted. whether they did drink it each and all the time, i'm nonetheless not sure it may actual harm them. i think of letting your canines have a drink from the river on a similar time as on a walk now after that's advantageous. i've got continuously enable my canines do this and not seen any situation with it. ~Kyle

Depends how far up... Above Albany is probably OK. Below Poughkeepsie is probably not. Down by NYC is pure stupidity.
