I don't really get what the DIA does. Is it government or military? Who do they report to? What would be a DIA person's (officer? agent?) job description if assigned to South or Central America, for example.

The difference is in what kind of intelligence they look for.

CIA, looks at economic, governmental , terrorism areas mainly.

DIA ( which is part of the defense dept) looks at military related intelligence areas.,

Military capability of countries
Geographic composition of countries ( cannot launch a cruise missile at a building, if you don't know exactly where that building is)

CIA=Central Intelligence Agency
