forget about the "give me your poor...etc."
We should build one, but instead of holding a torch, she should have both arms up with the middle fingers out. Then, everyday at a random time her head will swivel back and forth 180 degrees while blowing flames from her mouth.

First off, you assume that the United States built the Statue of Liberty. It didn't. It was a gift from France.
Second, I don't see any suggesting not giving a welcome to any that come legally into this country. They just don't want the law breaking ones that can't obey immigration laws.
I favor enforcement of the laws we have now. I am even in favor of having the same/similar immigration laws that Mexico has with full enforcement.

No thank you! BTW WE DON'T NEED THEM!
May 1, 2006 as "A day without an immigrant" protest. This was suppose to cripple our economy and show how valuable the illegal alien was to America. Well, it was a bomb for the pro-illegals! It showed how we don't need them and how we WILL be better off without them.
I heard that May 1, 2007 is another protest day. I can't wait! It will again show how un-necessary the illegal alien criminal is to America!

Integrating them means making them learn our language (like my grandmother had to do), making them work instead of just giving them welfare, and expecting them to stay here once they arrive. This is a country, not a free zone, and I want to keep it that way. I have a right to, because I'm a citizen. If they want to be Americans and not just take my tax money and send it back to Mexico, then they should follow legal immigration laws. With so much illegal immigration, however, there is no incentive to upgrade our immigration laws because there is no reason to conform to them.

"We"? You need to speak for yourself. Tens of millions of Mexicans are not needed to work every job in the USA that does not require a college degree, and send their money back to Mexico. That's a terrible assumption. As an American Indian, the Statue of Liberty means nothing to me.

First of all, we don't need them - we have American citizens who pay enough taxes as it is, not to mention the fact that there are plenty of people who are living here in the first place.
Secondly, they're not interested in learning our cultures, history, or way of life. They make that very clear in the following link.
Lastly, The statue of liberty isn't everyone's mother - Just 'cause they have it bad doesn't mean we are obligated to take them in. We're sick and tired of taking care of everyone else but ourselves. We're the AMERICANS damn it and we come first.
And as far as I'm concerned, Mexicans or those south of the Rio Grande aren't worthy of having a statue built - much less the Statue of Liberty.
If we should do anything for Mexico, it'd be to place their flags over every welfare office and hospital - 'cause that's all their pathetic towel excuse of a flag is worth.

That was the old United States, when it was the land of opportunity for poor immigrants and they were welcomed. The new United States isn't interested in the tired and poor and hungry people anymore.

Well guess what? They don't want to assimilate to the US. That's why we are having to print everything in Spanish. Because they have no intentions of learning English and assimilating to the American life style. Its very sad. I see every day bright young legal American students being turned down for student loans, and I can tell you from an inside source the student loans are going to students who don't even speak English. How they are getting the funds I don't know but they are. It sickens me, to see this happening to our great nation.
