Why not just ask him? If that's not an option, you could strongly hint like "I really wish I could go to prom with someone just like you. Do you have a date already 'cause I don't. Have you asked anyone? I'd love it if you asked me!"

Excuse my ignorance, I'm not Mormon so I don't know what effect that has on the issue, but I think you should just go ahead and ask him. The worst thing that could possibly happen is that he would say no, and then you could move on and ask someone else. By the time you are in your mid twenties or thirties you will probably have forgotten this guy, and you will always regret it if you miss your prom over him.

Well, have lunch with him and when no one's around tell him you want to tell him a secret.
Wisper that if he'd ask you to the prom you'd say yes.
If he does not ask you out then, well I guess he's not interested.
Sorry I don't know much about Mormons. Met some mormon missionaries here; they were very nice.

Have a friend ask for you, have her say something like "*your name* likes you and wants to go to the prom with you, but she's not going to tell you so you should go ask her to go with you." and if you want to, your friend could add a "if you break her heart I'll break your face." just for fun =) good luck!

Does he like you, if he does, show you're interested, if he doesn't respond, don't waste your time on him. If you're fairly certain he likes you, but think he is shy, simply ask him out, as difficult as that may seem, notes are usually best.

The best way to get him to ask you is probably to ask him yourself. :-) Don't worry about it... It might seem strange, but there's essentially nothing to regret, but rather the other way around.
