My question is this. I am a "step grandparent". He wanted this baby to call me granny or grandma. That would be great, but I would have had to been like between 11 and 14 just to be this child's grandmother. He said "gram gram" then. Well, my mom is grams, gram, and grammie to her grandchildren, and I didn't think that was right. So, I looked up some "step grandparents nicknames" this is what I came up with CiCi, MiMi, Mima, Meemaw, Memom. I liked MiMi, he didn't, so he said "we'll call you CiCi and when she gets older I'll tell her you own CiCi's pizza" I mean... he is driving me nuts. What are you thoughts?

She has other grandparents. Grandma and Nana and something else for someone else.

I am not vain, I just am not old enough to be a grandma. I love her to pieces. She loves me too, when they bring her over, she goes to me, not to her grandpa, but to me... and his son loves that she loves me, but he doesn't even want me to be called grandma, he thinks it is weird, because we are only 10 1/2 years apart and he dated older women than me, so.... he feels weird about her calling me grandma or nana or granny, because I am not to him.

No, being a grandma didn't come to my mind. I wasn't thinking when I got with him! :o) The baby has a "Nana" and an Aunt with my first name, she has a "grandma" and a "nannie".

Enjoy being accepted as a grandmother for a step grand Child..no matter what you are being called. It is no one business how old you are. Have fun watching people calculating the age difference and explain to them if you like. I have a 8 yo chil, and an 8yo step daughter. thay are1 week apart and when people ask me how old they are I say they are both 8 and wait for the reaction. It is quite amusing, now after 3 yrs of this.

You are the grandma......you are married to her grandpa. You can't expect her to call you step-grandma and I don't understand the CiCi and the Mimi......meemaw sounds way older than grandma to me (I picture a little scarf wearing granny in her rocking chair). If you are this uncomfortable with the thought of grandma, then maybe the child can call you by your nickname or "auntie". I don't want to come off as being a witch, but you did marry someone 14yrs older than you and you obviously knew he had a son.........grandma had to cross your mind at some point. Let the child call you grandma. Yes, you are young to be a grandma but lets face it.......in today's society, girls as young as 13yrs old are being called mom! Go with it and have fun! Think of it this way, you are probably the youngest grandma you know!

CiCi sounds as dumb as what my MIL wants to be called - Nae Nae. My best friend's mom has her grand kids call her MiMi. I let my step mother decide what she wanted to be called by my son and that's what he is learning. She decided to be called Grandma Terri. I don't think there are "designated" words for step grandparents. Just decide what you want to be called and when you are "talking" with the baby, use that term. Babies need all the family they can get. Best wishes on the new addition to yours!

My mother goes by "Nanna" to her grand-children. My father goes by "Pawpaw." Frankly, it is YOUR choice as to what the child calls you, and what the child is capable to say.
