Elephatitis is a human genetic defect. It gets it's name due to the disfigurement it causes to it's sufferers, causing them to exhibit an almost elephant like appearance.

The most famous sufferer was John Merrick or 'The Elephant Man' (for more info see the movie of the same name).

john merrick did not have elephantitis, he had neurofibromatosis type 1 and proteus syndrome both very rare and he unfortanetly had both!!!!
