Easy Doughnuts
Really quick and easy donuts made from ingredients you probably already have. There's hardly any waiting time. Use any topping you want. Our favorite is powdered sugar!
Original recipe yield:
18 doughnuts
PREP TIME 14 Min
COOK TIME 2 Min
READY IN 16 Min
INGREDIENTS
2 tablespoons white vinegar
7/8 cup milk
2 tablespoons shortening
1/2 cup white sugar

2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 quart oil for deep frying
1/2 cup confectioners' sugar for dusting
DIRECTIONS
Stir the vinegar into the milk, and let stand for a few minutes until thick.

DOUGHNUTS (AUNT SADIE'S RECIPE)

2 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 c. rich sour cream (I use whipping cream)
3/4 to 1 c. sour milk
1 tsp. soda
1/2 to 1 tsp. baking powder
3/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. vanilla
Flour, enough to be able to roll dough and cut doughnuts, approximately 5-6 c.

Beat sugar and eggs together. Add cream, milk, and vanilla. Stir well. To one cup of the flour, add soda, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg. Blend into sugar and egg mixture. Add flour 1 cup at a time, until dough can be handled, keeping it as soft as possible.
On floured surface, roll dough to approximately 1/3 inch thick and cut doughnuts. Fry in oil 375-400 degrees. Serve plain or dusted with powdered sugar.

NOTE: Can "sour" cream or milk by adding 1 teaspoon vinegar per cup

These aren't homemade but they are good. Take some canned biscuits, put hole in center and fry in some oil and you have a quick delicious treat. Roll them in sugar, or sugar/cinnamon, powdered sugar, or spread some canned frosting on.
