We spent a month in Italy a few years ago. It was really, really hot (104F) while in Roma. So when we left Rome after 5 hot, dirty days Tuscany was the breath of fresh air we needed. We stayed at a beautiful working farm (link) not to far from Sienna and San Giamongio. http://www.intuscany.net/apartments/agriturismo_amadriade.htm

And Venice! How can you go to Italy and not visit this wonderful city? In april it is really nice: there aren't too many people and the lagoon is beautiful. It is better than Turin (and Florence is better than siena). If you like mosaics you can go to Ravenna; in many different places there are many medioeval castles; Umbria is another interesting region to visit... Have a nice trip!
