Most likely for the sport of it if it's between two pets that cohabit anyway. I would not let animals that are strangers to each other to get into that `cat and mouse game because they can injure or kill each other. Depending on the temperament of the animal- actually I think it's instinctive for animals that are predators to chase anything running .

Dogs chase anything that moves, cats, squirrels, lights etc.

Why do you think dogs chase cars, squairls, kids, people on bikes, other dogs, a bird, or anything moving faster than them that they cant catch?

They are boredom busters that need corecting, unless your nieghborhood kids are annoying you.

they want to play with them, but since dogs are soemtime bigger and stronegr they end up killing the cats
