When I bought my puppy, my grandparent's friends bought one from the same litter.

My Grandparents friend is probably in her 50s, single and no children. So i can understand why she wanted to get herself a dog.

But she works for the University here and she is a botonist with my Grandad so she always has to go out of town and goes on field trips. When she's away (which is almost every second week) she leaves her dog with one of her friends. It's always a different person.

Our puppies are 4months old. She works during the day aswell.

I don't think this is fair that she leaves her dog home alone each day and she goes away for a long period of time.

What physcological effect with this have on her dog when she's older? What can I do about it?

I've already spoken to my mum and she said she didn't think it was fair on her puppy.

My parents have to work during the day and my brother and I are at school also. I don't believe think that it's bad to leave your dog at home alone when your working. There isn't much way around this.

I couldn't adopt her puppy. The councels bi-law is that only one dog may be own at on residence unless for farming use.

I think the dog will be fine. As long as someone is taking good care of him. Actually, this is a great way for him to learn socialization. Dogs who are only around their people learn to be owner protective and may not always do well with other people.
The down side to this arrangement is that he probably does not get the consistancy he needs for proper training. He may have more difficulty learning to walk on leashes, house training, and getting on a feeding and sleeping schedule.
Other than that, I think he will fine.

As long as she has someone who cares about the puppy puppysits, there shouldn't be a problem. Just because she travels in her work doesn't mean she shouldn't be allowed to have a dog. We don't travel in our work, but we do both work Monday thru Friday, and our son is in school, so by your standards, only stay at home people should have pets. That would result in an awful lot of animals getting put to sleep if only non-working people could adopt them. I don't think you could or should do anything about it. As long as the puppy is happy and healthy, leave them alone.

The puppy will grow up and be fine, also puppies sleep a lot and it is most likely sleeping most of the time anyway. Please don't be overly concerned about the puppy. There are children in this country whose parents work all day too and somehow they manage as well with different people caring for them at times.

It is very cruel to the dog You can talk to the lady about how you feel about her leaving the dog alone then suggest that maybe you can take care of the dog yourself if you are able to or if you want. but as long as there is no sign of abuse or neglect there is nothing else you can do.

I agree with you and your mom, as it's not fair to the puppy, but as long as the puppy is well taken care of, there really should be no harm. (personally, I don't know why she got herself a puppy to begin with)

Yes your mom is right. It is unfair and unkind to the pup. However I dont think there is anything you can do right now.

Your a smart young lady. Love your pup to bits! Give it a tummy rub for me!
