will it still look like venitian plaster, and what type of paint should i use? eggshell, semi-gloss, flat?

you will need to paint a coat of primer first, you might need to coats then you can paint, but you will still have the bumpy texture. if you dont want that you'll need to get a belt sander and the roughest grade of sand paper and sand the heck out of it. i had to do that in my bathroom. it was there when i bought my house and trying to clean behind the toilet was a killer, i would crap up my nuckles. good luck w/ the painting.

of course. there is a certain kind u need cuz regular will eat through it [like the kind u use for walls]. the venitians is a sensitive material and requires a 'softer' paint. so yeah. ask someone at a reliable hardware store like McLendon's or Lowes or even Home Depot because they are trained to know this stuff. hope i helped. good luck!!!!

They do it all the time on "Trading Spaces", so it must work.
I would ask the employees where you buy your paint (Home Depot, Lowe's, paint store) what type would work best. They
would know, and that's what they're there for...
