Bananas should be peeled just before using because when exposed to air, they oxidize and turn brown. If they are not used immediately after peeling, brush the flesh of the bananas with lemon, lime or orange juice to prevent them from browning.
Another method that can be used to prevent browning is to soak bananas in acidulated water. Mix 1 part lemon juice with 2 or 3 parts water and place slices in the mixture. Allow to soak for 3 to 5 minutes. Drain slices and then pat dry with paper towels.

Bananas when exposed to air after being cut or just peeled turn brown which is called oxidation. It is liken to rust. The best thing to take care of it is to either cut just before serving or dip it in lemon, orange or lime juice. The citric acid in these juices will take care of it. It will keep them white and fresh looking. This method can also be used for apples, too. They will oxidize when exposed to air. I hope this helps.

you can cut them mix them with some lemon or lime juice
( the acidity will keep them from turning brown) and cover them in a bowl, but you should also know that they will get a little mushy cause they should really be peel & sliced right before serving, 4 hurs is quite a long time.

There really isn't much you can do except wait until the last minute and I'm sorry to say that dipping them in the lemon or lime juice will alter the taste. It works on apples, not so much on bananas.

Try squeezing lemons over them. This will prevent the bananas from oxidizing (or turning brown). Test it first on one banana and see if it works.
i ususally do this with avocados and they always work.

Not possible. They have to be cut just prior to serving. They certainly won't last 4 hours.

I'm not for sure but I think you put them in the freezer.. maybe the ice box if you are going to eat them soon. My mother in law leaves hers out and if they don't get ate and start to brown (unpeeld) than she puts them in the freezer and they last untill shes ready to make banana nut bread with them.
good luck
