I have a movie file that is avi format, when I played it it gaves me sound but the screen is black and it doesnt show anything. how can I play it, should I download any softwear?

K-Lite Pack once you download and install this you should be able to play any file. Media Player Classic is also included which plays more files than Windows Media Player.
edit* Please don't use Real Player its horrible.

its free and you can play a lot of video formants that windows media player cannot play.

most probably you dont have the correct codec installed in your computer, you could download the tool in the link and check if your file is ok and if the codec is installed in your machine, it will give you al the info:

If has not played .avi, I am sure that you can play it with "DivX player". Free download at:

You need the divx or xvid codec.
