It's called Linux.
Microsoft products aren't free... and even if you pay for them you don't really own them, read the EULA.

you really cant get a free download of win xp. you would have to buy it. But if you did some seraching online using search phrases like (cracked windows xp) and etc you can get it that way. But here is the catch, microsoft has a little thing that sees if your xp operating system is authentic or not. if its not the os ocks up on you and you have to find a key code for it or call microsoft pay the same money that you would of paid if you were to buy one brand new. So its really not worth it. I hope it helps I went through it before once so. Best of luck.

I guess you don't understand what copyright laws are... nor do you understand what authentication for XP does. If they find you have a bogus copy, they do stuff to your system... to the point that even a format won't fix it (have friends this has happened to) then you fork out more money to fix the issue than you would to actually buy it. Get the cheap OEM Version. It's legit, you get authentication AND you dont' get a box and a tonne of usless books with it.

sorry to tell you this but
IF YOU DOWNLOADED WINDOWS XP FOR FREE OFF THE NET IT WOULD BE ILLEGAL!!!
well now that i got that out LOL! sorry but even copying win xp for a backup would be illegal and plus if you did find a download it would be a HUGE file! it probably wouldn't download! One tip if you want to upgrade to xp from an earlier OS then your computer would be SLOW trust me personal experience :) if you really want a good XP machine go to your nearest computer store and buy a new cpu.

Hi. Free of what? Payment? That would be hard. eBay may have CHEAP copies. And some OEM copies were available with the purchase of some inexpensive hardware.

Do get one of the free LINUX distributions. My favorites are UBUNTU and XUBUNTU. They are easy to use and install. Once you have one installed you gain access to thousands of free programs. You can also explore them from the CD.
