My Mother was born in Barcelona, Spain and my Father was born in Southern Ireland. I have mostly identified with the Spanish ancestry probably because of the stirring in my heart when I hear flamenco music and I am very partial to Spanish foods. When I was little my Mother used to find me drawing pictures of flamenco dancers and thought that was rather bizarre as I was too young to know about my ancestry at all. So, yeah : Spain it is! :)

Depending how far back you want to go, my ancestors were from Prussia (Germany/Poland), France, Switzerland, the Netherlands/Brabant, Belgium, Bavaria. But most of my French ancestors spent the last 400 years in Canada. Most of my Swiss ancestors were originally French. Many of my French (but non-French Canadian) ancestors were from an area that went back and forth with the Germans and my research shows that the family was originally German before crossing the Meuse river into France in the 1400s. Many of my Prussian/Polish ancestors descend from Swedish invaders. A few of my French ancestors left the country to avoid persecution and married into Scottish lines before their descendents came to Canada and became Catholic again. I even found a line from France that spent a few generations in London, then went to Holland before migrating to Baden.

Genealogy is wonderful when you can find the whole story of your ancestors and see how many times their lives took interesting turns.
