But they ended up getting charged with a misdemeanor from an american citizen(verbal threat), would that hurt their chances from becoming an american through marraige?

It certainly won't help. One offense is unlikely to make any difference. For that reason it is best to be completely honest about it, demonstrate regret at getting involved in the first place and show that one has learnt one's lesson.

I don't see why it would be a problem, they let Mexican's undocumented in by the truck loads, they protest, boss us around, steal , drive drunk , kill, rob people in their own homes. So why would they not let one German seaking to get citizenship while visiting his girlfriend threaten an American?
That just ain't right........

A misdemeanor shouldn't hurt them but a felony would.
