The IRS does not accept credit card payments directly. Their are 2 service providers authorized to accept payments for the IRS. Both companies make their profit by charging a fee in addition the the taxes due. I used one of them last year, and the fee appeared as a separate charge on my bill. For state taxes, it varies by state.

There is an extra charge, but if you really need to pay your taxes with a credit card, use one of those cash advance checks. They look like regular checks, but will be billed to your credit card if it is a bank credit card.

You can absolutely use a credit card.. but the 'charge' you pay is the interest on the credit card. The IRS charges fees as well, so you need to figure out which is cheaper in order to save money on fees.

Yes, you can,. and there is a "convenience fee" that goes along with it. You might be better off making a payment arrangement.
