In trying to figure your sodium intake for the day, is the goal to limit salt, or all forms of sodium? Most vegetables are pretty high in sodium. Are they as much of a risk as table salt?

I'm sorry! I chose the heart disease category, but it ended up here. I have no idea how that happened.

Thanks for your help, though! ;o)

All sodium. Even the kind found in vegetable protein. Keep track - it's the only way.

I would have to say to avoid all salty products (based on sodium chloride). Sodium is necessary for the body, however, people with CHF may experience high blood pressure if their sodium intake cannot be tolerated by the body.

The best thing is that we have artificial salt available almost everywhere, which allow the CHF patients enjoy their meals better without the risk of high blood pressure or heart attacks.

Sodium chloride (salt) is water soluble. whilst it dissolves in water (and your blood is principally water) it splits into sodium ions and chloride ions. it rather is the sodium ion that is affecting your physique. Sodium would not "reason" severe blood tension. In some human beings it contributes to severe blood tension yet there are frequently different underlying motives for the severe blood tension like blocked arteries and veins. specific, sodium is a white (certainly, silver) metallic that reacts violently with water. yet it particularly is sodium as an element and the atoms are impartial. whilst sodium types compounds it is going to become a sodium ion with a +a million charge. The ion would not behave the way the impartial element does. (it might provide new intending to the word "heartburn"!).

Sodium is the offender. Ignore any gibberish about natural / not natural; sodium is sodium. Fresh vegetables are high in potassium, not sodium.

salt from vegetables is natural and easily processed by the body. Table salt is refined and not natural, therefore worse for you.
