Like most have already stated, 5.5 is a 22, Though i have never heard any brit address a 22 as a 5.5, This makes me think that the gun is perhaps an import with 5.5 engraved on it.
I know your intentions mean well, and you wish to supprise him but my advice would be to tell him of your intentions.
I say this for a couple of reasons,Firstly chances are your hubby has some knowledge of air rifls there for he can advise you, Secondly it may not be his preferd choice.
As a hunter i will give some advice though,,,
Never buy the gun you dont wish to be stuck with.

A 22 cal. is 0.220" thousandths of an inch. 5.5 is 5.5 millimeters when you convert metric measurements to imperial measurements you will find that 5.5mm and .22inch are the same thing
as to worrying about registration ,it is the FPS or feet per second that the pellet travels at ,not the calibur . So no worries girl.

"Is it a good gun and not a waste of money?"...well I am not shure you did not specify make and model. sorry I cant help any more till you tell me more about it.

Re. air rifle pellet sizes. 5.5 mm is the equivalent metric of a .22 inch pellet. ie they are the same size. Hope this helps.

Before you purchase the air rifle (it's a .22) you really should let your husband look at it. Tell him you'd like to get him one and you are found this one. For a guy, buying a rifle can be kinda personal, besides there may be some requirements on what he can shoot at the club. I'm sure he'll be pleased that you're thinking about supporting his "hobby", and glad you asked for his input about this particular gun before actually purchasing it.

this rifle is a .22 cal air rifle, in the uk the legal limit for it is 12 ft lbs above this you need a fire arms certificate, check it out, your husband may have to put it on his FAC. my advice would be to tell him of your desire to suprise him but that you didn`t want to buy him something that you wasn`t sure about he`ll still love the thought.

5.5mm *is* .22cal. Just metric-speak as opposed to inches.

Your hubby will probably love it.

Any idea on the brand? Ballpark price?
