Absolutely! We have had several very close calls, but God protected us. Once
when my husband and I were on the 401, a woman driving in a small red sports car right next to us was weaving back and forth and almost hit us.
She had a coffee, cigarette and was using her cell phone. What I want to know--who was driving? We finally got ahead of her. Well, wouldn't you know 2 weeks later in our paper same scenario. She became airborne and flew over the median into oncoming traffic. I don't know if she was killed or not but it would certainly make her think twice- if she had any brains that is. Another time I was driving on Brant when my car quit on me. I looked up just in time to see a man in a truck headed for me. He had a cellphone in his ear, laughed at me and shrugged his shoulders. However, there was an amazing good Samaritan. He was a taxi driver who got between me and the truck driver. By the way, when I saw the truck-I dove for the floor. There are other things but we don't have all day. We got talked into a cellphone but we pull over and stop, then use it. When my husband is driving and I have to tell someone we are on the way to pick them up, I do the calling. Should people using cellphones and not paying attention to what they are doing, need to be prosecuted. Absolutely!
The stiffer the sentence the better. We never hear what happens to cell phone
drivers. I don't know what the penalties here in Canada but they are not stiff enough
and far too lenient.

It varies from state to state. In some states there is no law regarding usage while driving at all. In about half of the states the law requires use of a hands free device or driver is subject to a fine of around $100.

My only problem w this is there are many other activities drivers undertake while driving which are equally dangerous, & should also carry sanctions. (shaving, eating, applying make up, having sex , even reading a bookActually in some of our states the law does prohibit these activities, & the violation is called driving while distracted.
