God, I hope so! We have the freedom to do so now. This isn't the dark ages...

Which current society and which god? And why do I think you assume US (or maybe European) and Jehovah?
The US is actually more religious than it used to be back before the Red Scare. Europe has gone down a bit. Third world christianity is up. Muslims seem much more religious now. Hindus might be a bit more but I don't really have a good feel for the sub-continent.
But I wouldn't want you to question your prejudices. So here's a bit of mocking. God was so stupid, in the bible he thought a bat was a kind of bird.
Happy now?

Psalm 74:18
Remember how the enemy has mocked you, O LORD, how foolish people have reviled your name.
I am not sure how we could compare degrees of mocking from one society or generation to another other than maybe the fact that the population is greater today. God had King David write a Psalm about it. (All scripture being ordained by God.)
I know it is very bad today.
Mocking began with Lucifer in heaven.
I pray the Holy Spirit will continue to convict hearts unto salvation.

Ever since the beginning society has mocked God and not followed his word. All were destroyed as God promised. We are no different and we too will go down as a world full of non believers in Jesus Christ.

Western society is able to mock God because Christians and Jews no longer demand the death penalty for heresy, apostasy, and blasphemy. We are no longer forced to believe the ridiculous delusions of our ancestors.
Unfortunately, in the Muslim world, all these so-called "crimes" are still punishable by death, so even Muslims who may not believe in God must keep very tight lipped unless they want to find their bodies suddenly headless.

We Mock God constantly with our behaviours and lack thereof. We mock God by loosing our understanding of the intention of worship. We mock God when we see not the great beauty that has been created all around us, and we mock God most harshly when we search for for (him-her) in a book.

I think our current society is guilty of more than just "mocking" - we have blatantly called sin good and evil just while sitting in judgment of our God. We judge what we cannot understand and refuse to accept thinking that our "reasoning" is more righteous than God. It is one more sign that the second coming of Christ is very near.

Well, how about albania under hoxha enver (1940s-1980s)? Or other atheistic states, USSR under Stalin, CHina under Mao, Cambodia under Pol Pot, N. Korea under the Ils? There's no excuse for how bad we are, but there are worse.

No, all have sinned and "fallen short" of the glory of GOD! It's not until we are adopted into the family of God that we can be acceptable. Christ is that standard and he makes us as he is those who are baptised in his name for the remission of sins.. Then we attain his glory and are found worthy to be filled with his spirit!

Marie...
It's the here and now.
It could be because the population have grown...overwhelmingly.
One day, all of us will stand before the living God. I pray for his mercy.
Peace be with you.
