Its in their nature to "bury or hide" things especially food.. does he ever go back after a while and eat it? or leave it there for good? I honestly wouldnt give your little doggy anything else but doggy treats or food since their liver isnt able to process most human foods, Their liver would fail or be proned to liver disease.. I lost a schnauzer to his liver failing all because of a peice of food here and there... i know its weird... Over time since humans have socialized dogs they used to be ammune to every sort of garbage they could find... i couldnt honestly say these dogs lived for too long but they could digest food that they either found or killed, so in other words your little doggy wouldnt be immune to eating people food and to give him doggy treats that are specially made for him... If he isnt eating the stuff you are giving him then maybe its a sign that he doesnt like it... =) i hope this was helpful!!

No, he is not playing, and when he has the food in his mouth with his face towards the corner, stay away! He is telling you very clearly that "that is mine, and I will do whatever to keep it, stay away". A bite could easily occur when a dog is food agressive. I do not know what caused him to become food aggressive, has he always been this way, or has something happened to cause him this anxiety? It is something you should definately get some help with, training him and you, how to feed him without aggression. Giving him people food is definately wrong, their digestive systems just can't handle the food we eat, they get gassy and full of pain, some will vomit or be nauseas. Adding Bak Flower to the diet will help with irritability, and nipping. It is completely safe for dogs and people(know any cranky peeps?) and does help, we use it for our St. Bernard. You can buy it at the vet or health food store.

He probably feels his food is safer in that corner. If there are other animals in the house, or he needs to share a bowl or other food, he may feel he won't get enough , unless he hides it for later.
We have a dog that hides things under the cushions of our sofa! He thinks the Cats may want his bones etc. It's funny to watch. Don't know if there is a way to stop it.

I think it is to save some for later.I had a chihuahua for 15 years that done the same thing. Now my new dog is a JRT/chi mix and he does the same thing.I thought for a while with the other dog it was because she was a female, but the male does it now.It can be nerve racking if you see the food after you have cleaned and mopped.I really never broke the last one, so I'm use to it now...Good luck with him.

He is not playing at all. This is an instinctual behavior that canines possess. When eating these pack animals react in a way that insures there own survival. This is because in their past a kill of another animal would come only so often and so one must fend for his or her share of the meat.By hiding the food for later,he or she is again, insuring it's survival. This is why your chihuahua takes the food away from you.It is not for playing,it is for keeps...Tom Science 4

My cousin and i both agreed that the reason your dog is behaving like this is because he doesn't want anyone else or any other dog to get or touch his food. An animal's food is very high on their priority list and they will almost do anything to keep it for themselves.

All my dogs do this. They're just saving it for later and want to put it in a safe spot so no one else can get it. My yorkie hides things under the couch cushions.

This was probably the runt of the litter and other sibblings wouldn't allow this dog to eat enough so it got the habit of hiding its food in order that the other sibblings did not steal it from him/her.

He's probably used to fighting against other dogs to get his food.

It's his way of conserving those morsels of food and protecting them from other animals.
