What I do for myself is I use a food calorie, first off. The night before, I plan out my meals and try to prepare them all as soon as possible. I tend to find that if I have a food/snack prepared to eat at a certain time, I eat less of the excess foods. However, lately I've been overeating because of my fluctuations in my schedule, but it's always important to get back on track.
I also try and bring a bottle of water to resist food cravings, and little vegetables or fruits to munch on. Popcorn is a good low calorie muncher, and so are celery and carrots. Although they may not tate that great and may dissuade you from your diet, you have to remember what you want.
If you're really devoted, you'll stick to it naturally. Of course, you may not and give in. It's important to think about how this will affect you in the long run, and if you'll actually be able to lose the weight later in life. Some people buy smaller/thinner clothes and use that as motivation. Some people weight themselves every day. Some people do penance, like me. If I overeat, I exercise and run more. Even I know how much I hate exercising too much.

Sparkpeople is a great site, but it might not be the best motivator. I think you really just have to think of how to become a healthier person. Just think of all the diseases you can get with being overweight. High cholesterol, diabetes, heart attacks, and so much more! And also...don't you want to look better and feel better about yourself?
The one thing that motivated me to work out more were the compliments I was receiving from family, friends, and even strangers. It shows when you continue to work out and eat healthy.
I know this might sound a little cruel but, I get more motivated when I see people who are obese. I tell myself I don't want to be that way and so I eat healthier and go to the gym more. Some people are so overweight that they can't fit into a booth in restaurants. They get made fun of and people are constantly staring at them. I don't want that to be me so I do anything that's humanly possible to avoid becoming fat or obese.
I hope some of this helps! =/

I notice that you mention that you only stick to a plan for a day or two.
What you are probably missing is a finish date. Decide on a plan and stick to it for a certain amount of time. Weight loss results are much more likely to occur if you put a deadline on your efforts.
What has worked for me is having a 30 day goal. For instance, no eating after dinner for the next thirty days. Once 30 days have gone by, I can choose to allow myself to eat after dinner or not. Guess what, I have continued. I got over the difficulty of not eating after dinner by telling myself that it was for only 30 days.
Here's another thing, in that thirty day period I "failed". One evening I ate something after dinner. I told myself, no big deal, just finish the thirty days and get it over with.
Hope this helps you stick to your efforts.

Try sparkpeople.com - good motivation, lots of info. Bulletin boards, point collecting for 'good' habits, etc. A friend of mine is doing a fantastic job of getting fit and losing weight., using it for motivation and support. I'm so impressed with her, and with the site.
Another option, don't try it alone. Join weight watchers - it's the one that's been shown through many many studies to actually work.
Good luck!

You can put the picture of your self when you were thin. You can also get big mirrors and every day when you wlk around the house you can see your self better adn it influences your motivation. Those people who look at them selves in the morror have less motivation to keep their weight down. If you are a man, put a picture of a group of men in shape or if you are a woman, leave few picturees of good looking women in bikinis. This will reminds you that you have to stay in shape if you want to be popular

Make smaller goals and reward yourself for making them.
First 5 pounds, take a bubblebath
First 10 pounds, go sit in a hot tub at the gym/local hotel
First 15 pounds, go buy a new outfit
First 20 pounds, go get a pedicure/manicure
First 25 pounds, go get a massage
Do them how you want, just make sure that you stick with your schedule of rewards and make them worth it. Notice that there is NO FOOD involved in these rewards.
Good Luck!

I've lost 5 kilos in my first week. It's my 10th day and I have included salad with some protein (eg. egg/ lean chicken) as you suggested. After 4 years of trying, the fat is finally coming off. It truly feels like magic!
Get started today!

wow,i almost felt like i was reading my diary!i recently lost alot of weight and before i knew it i was back into old eating habbits and bam i put on a couple of kilo's.i didn't think it was obvious til my "friend" said 'being heaps skinny didn't suit you anyway'.that was enough to whip me back into shape.
just accept that healthy eating and exercise is a part of life.i feel ike crap when i let myself put on weight.it's so not worth it!
i allow myself the odd treat, otherwise i binge big time.
once you've lost weight again get rid of all your fat clothes.
i keep a really bad photo of myself and look at that when i feel myself slipping.
all the best:)
