Its been a few years since I had a dog that sufferered from seizures but here is what I know:

Long term Phenobarb use will cause liver damage.

I used to have a Yorkie who was on Phenobarb twice daily for years to prevent (though not always successfully) seizures caused by hydroencephalus.

I read after she died (at about 10 years old - which is young for a Yorkie) that long term Phenobarb usage causes liver damage. This long term use (she had been on it for years!) most likely caused her early death.

I suggest you do research on Phenobarb in dogs.

Good luck!

If the seizures are worse then before you need to talk to the vet, it might be the wrong dosage. Or if he is having more seizures per day he should be seen asap.

You don't give the dogs age or how long he has been on phenobarbatol. If this is an adult dog then please get to the vet immediately! His meds need to be adjusted asap.

If it is a pup or a senior dog then perhaps his seizures are just changing in nature but still requires a med dosage or complete med change.

Good luck!

We gave it to our male Cocker for years for seizures. the Vet told us it would shorten his life but he lived a great life for 15 years.
