I have a cat almost 1 year old who is in heat. She has been going in and out of heat for the past few months. She will be spayed ASAP. I got a new kitten in late december who was only 2 weeks old (all my cats are rescues) and is now putting her butt in the air, holding her tail to the side, and yowling like my older cat. She just turned 3 months in late February. Is she truely in heat or is she just immitating my older cat?

I truly do not think that this new kitten is in heat. A cat is an animal and will display animal behavior. Cats purr, and meow and do different things, some alike and some different. I also think that if you have any questions, you should go online to a site that specializes in cat behavior. I would also suggest calling a vet or two. No need to spend unnecessary money for a simple question. You should be able to pose a question over the phone without taking up too much time.

I guess she could be older than you were told and she could be in heat. At 2 weeks, she should have still been nursing and her eyes would have just opened. I would guess if she were eating food OK that she was at least 5 weeks. It is possible for her to be in heat at 5 months and even 4 months, but that would be unusual. My vet wanted kittens to weigh at least 5 pounds to be spayed. See how much she weighs.
I hope this helped.

I would seriously doubt she would go into heat that early.

I have never heard of one going into head under 5 months...but maybe it's just the cases I have seen in my 5 years working in veterinary medicine.

I'd take her for a wellness exam, call your vet and check it out if you're concerned

Hmmm...she is pretty young to be in heat, but cat's don't usually imitate other cats in that way. I'd put money on the "in heat" thang...
