i volunteer in a hospital and work with mentally handicapped children. i can tell you that those who can usually follow their family's beliefs. otherwise, they are keen of discovering beauty in every little thing in their environment. i learn from them evry time I see them.

I do not have an opinion. I do have a handicaped aunt that turned to the christian religion when she was handicaped and thing got a lot better for her and she is much happier now so i think that sais something.

No pun intended, but what a retarded question. People with mental disabilities (please note the usage of "people first" language) approach religion/theism the same ways everyone else does. How do you approach it? How do many others approach it? I ask these questions because from my experience in working with people with disabilities (all diagnoses), people with mental retardation and other developmental disabilities are no different in that they tend to have the same faith as what they were raised with.

I work and volunteer with people with learning disabilities. They tend to do what their family does. Several of my friends attend church regularly, one is a staunch atheist, and most don't really care one way or the other.
Which is pretty representative of the population in these parts.

Yes, well why can't I answer? I am a Source. My answer is that I think the mentally impaired would more readily accept anything that provided them comfort or made the people who cared for them happy. Religion or mythology either one, would be more easily accepted by mentally-impaired people with the proper positive reinforcement in their surroundings. Yes, I am a Christian. Thanks for Asking.
