i have been painting for years and we have our own property potfolio and i always do the decorating! so when i was painting a room the other day i was told that you should paint the corners, edging and cutting after you use a roller on the wall but i always do that first before i roll then once when i have finished the rolling, which is the 'professional'way?

I always cut first... by doing that, you can reduce the visible brush strokes in the corners and around the ceiling. The rolling should be taken easy around the cuts so you can get as close to the edge as you can, without touching the part you don't want to touch... I always roll by skipping a roll width and then rolling back into the previous area to blend it out. I go from floor to ceiling and blend it all out.
It isn't critical if the colour is light but if it's dark, you don't want to roll too far out ahead of yourself...you'll see the streaks from everywhere.

Cut in ceiling corners etc first, then roll the wall, just don't cut in a whole room, and then roll, as the other walls will dry and you will have lap marks. Usually cut in one wall then roll it.
