She is called names, but guys are just being guys. I read an article about hooking up and the emotional consequences for girls, and no mention of how guys are affected.

quite honestly, i think that our society is complete b*llsh*t. sorry, but how can a guy go shag 12 girls in a year and then be considered all stud and fly and stuff, and if a girl does the same..."ohhh she's a slutttttt.......ohhh she's sucha wh*re...." and filthy names like that?? HOW?? by the way, i think that seriously, if a girl just wanted the sex, she would just go for the sex. see? like a girl can get just as emotionally detatched or whatever as a guy, but i think that the very nature of shagging kind of makes it a bit more difficult for us girls...i mean. not tryin to be explicitely vulgar here, but the guys *are* on the aggressive end of the act....

anyways, those are my thoughts....

I heard a similar question on the radio 2 days ago. " is it more socially acceptable for a man to have several different sexual partners before he gets married then his wife?" " So is there a limit to the number of partners before he has a bad reputation and if so what is that number? " " The same question applies to the women." So peopled called in and yes it is "perceived that the man should be more sexually 'experienced' than the woman." The average number is around 15 with some men calling in saying that they had over a 100. The feeling was that most of them were probably lying with that number . For women , there average response was also around 15 also, with one woman claiming to have had least 60 different men. When asked if she thought this made her a slut she said "no". When asked if she felt that it should make a difference to have more partners than her husband she said,"no". So, when asked what she told her husband , when he asked, about how many men she had slept with before him she said,"8". When the DJs asked her why she lied, her answer was, "he was already hurt when he told him, " there were 8 others before him" , and she couldn't bare to hurt him any more than he already was . So I ask everyone, "who is the weaker sex? ". So who wrote the article you read, a man or woman? I guess unless you chose to live your life as a teller of truth no matter what the consequences, that would be your cross to bare. If you choose to enjoy yourself and understand how the world works, some people might consider you "sophisticated" and love you more for it.

Because for some reason people like to believe that girls are the epitome of innocence. To have them acting like boys and sleeping around is unsettling to a lot of people. It has been said that woman are more emotional about sex and for them to do it, seemingly without emotions, isn't natural.
(And I'm sure if you look for one, there is a study somewhere, telling the negative effects for men too.)
Woman have always been deemed nurturers too, so I guess it's all based on those things.

Historically, it's often been very important for society to know who the father of a certain child might be. (Think of the recent Anna Nicole Smith situation or perhaps any question of royal lineage from the era of kings and queens actually ruling.) In Judaic tradition, they follow the matrilineal line, since it's usually pretty certain who gave birth to a child.

Any activity that can cause chaos in society is going to be frowned upon. Promiscuous guys are not considered good, but their actions would cause different kinds of problems.

Society has different views on certan topics. Girls are suppose to keep up an image and have good control over their lives. Guys on the other hand, dont seem to mind about what people say and or think about them. Its a stereotypical thing.

society has a double standard related to that. Physical stuff can affect both guys and girls, so don't believe anyone who tells you differently, but women are more likely than men to trade sex for love.

I believe men actually invented this one. They want to sleep around as much as they can, but when its time to get married they want a virgin on their beds. They don't understand that they cant get laid if women don't open their legs. So, double standards are really a stupidity. If every women would keep her legs crossed then the poor men would have no choice but to keep their thingy for themselves.

It's a double standard really..it's pretty unfair to women. Women get frowned upon by having many partners, but if men have many partners it makes them seem dominant and more attractive.

It's called 'double-standards', and it's existed for thousands of years.

This new-era is not going to change that. When guys are 'bad', they have 'suceeded' when girls are 'bad', they're corrupted.

After all, - it's the women that are supposed to be the 'gate-keepers'. If they fail, then they might get pregnant.

Because since the dawn of man, women have always been looked as the "weaker" species. And if she is to ever act like a man she is looked at and thought of as mean, b*tchy, manly, a whore...etc...
