When faced with death, a person who has been instructed in religion but never an active practitioner, might find himself calling on God. But that person is not really an atheist.
A true atheist knows that gods do not exist. You cannot shake the knowledge of that truth. I will no more cry out to God on my death bed than I will cry out to a pink invisible unicorn.

Question: Is the statement "There are no atheists in foxholes." anything other than a statement about human fear?
That's it.
Question: Whose idea is it that the existence or non-existence of a god depends on human opinion anyway?
Good point!
Question: Well, if you do freak out and start believing in a god, which god will it be?
I will seek detachment. I cannot imagine turning to God. Well, maybe Spinoza's god.
Christianity has made a lot of the ability of their martyrs to endure torture and death and this is supposed to be evidence of the strength that comes from God.

"Count as evidence...?" I don't think so. It may be an indicator that the person in the foxhole has seriously considered the existence of God at some point and wants to cover all bases, so to speak.
Yes, it is a statement about human fear. But can you justifiably pontificate that that's all it is?
True: God's existence does not depend on our opinion. He's either there or not.
It will be the God whose story makes the most sense, is the most congruent with the reality I know. And, it will be the God who has the most evidence of His claims (Bible) in His corner.

Really the point is that it is an insulting statement to all the atheists who were in fox holes.
I much prefer the statement "THERE ARE NO ATHEISTS ON DEATH ROW!"
It is slightly more accurate and truthful.
I think if you were "in a foxhole" you might be a bit more concerned with how to keep from getting killed than praying to an imaginary God .

Are we still beating this dead horse?
For all you people who say “there is no such thing as an atheist in a foxhole” have you ever been in a foxhole?
When a Christian is wounded in battle what is the first thing they cry out?
“MEDIC”
WHY IS THIS? Is it because a medic may keep them alive long enough to get real medical help?
Where is there god then?

#2 Only religious people. Somehow, the more people that believe, the more valid that belief.
#3 None. Though I really wish there was an 'overseer' and some order to the world, there isn't.

It is not a true statement to begin with. Many atheists who have served in the military claim that even at times they believed death to be imminent, they held fast to their beliefs.
And no, the opinion of us mere mortals matters not in the slightest. If god is, god is whether or not we believe. If god is *not*, god is *not* whether or not we believe.
If I freak out and start believing in god, it will be the Venus of Willendorf. One HOT Momma!

Of course there are atheists in foxholes...hello Communists! China has the largest standing army in the world.
Of course, to compare Communists to all atheists woul be unfair.

dark remember is in simple terms an extremely massed remember, that it may't be by for any element. Even the easy is trapped by skill of this type of remember. so we will not hit upon it for the easy, in basic terms for its gravitational effect in different products; like galaxies...
