I bought a vehicle a month ago and i ws told by the dealership that the memorandum title would come in the mail. It never did, the finance co says its the dealers responsibility, and the car lot has closed (My luck!). The messed up part is when i called the title office to ask what to do they told me that the salesman came in 2 weeks AFTER i purchased the vehicle and put the title in HIS name (instead of mine!) Now what!! I finally got ahold of the salesman and he gave me a new purchase agreement to get new 30day tags (he changed the purchase date on the papers)! I that legal? Can i get into trouble if i try to get 30 day tags again, the 1st ones were in my name too. Im confused!

30 day tags are good for 30 days, and can not be renewed in most states. As of tomorrow you have an unregistered vehicle. You need to get your title fixed and your plates, or your money back on the vehicle. Contact whatever agency licenses car dealers in your state and complain, NOW.

find the salesman and drag him up to the tags office so that everything can get straighten out. he might have sold you a salvage car and cant get a legal title. if he refuses to help notify the finance company immediatly and explain the situation. they could take the car back if there are problems. Make sure that you get him to go register the car, and if there are any problems while there have those people notify the police.
Most states have laws regarding used cars and if the lot closed because of fraud then file a complaint so that you cant get in any trouble.

You need to contact the Dealer's Division for vehicle licensing in your state. The signing of the second agreement is illegal, as well as them selling you the car without a clear title. The going out of business further fuels the problems you are going to have to deal with. The dealer's division will want to see all the documents and receipts you have, don't throw anything away from either transaction. Call now, you need to get them caught before they leave town!

Go to your local prosecutor's office. Take all of the documents that you have and a statement from the finance company as to when you came in.
Ask to make a police report and the prosecutor's office will take it from there. It's called fraud.
Petition a Judge to issue a court order to the DMV to issue you a title on this car. In order to do this you must have posession of the car.
Good Luck!

Go to your nearest Motor Vehicle Department with all your paperwork and ask to talk to the supervisor.

Yes I think it's legal, however, unless you get that title you are screwed!
