The enzymes in your saliva helps to heal any sores in the mouth very quickly, particularly the tongue. As far as putting anything on it, the saliva will just wash it away. You might try sucking on ice and avoiding hot liquids for a while. It should ease up in a few days. If not, see your doctor or dentist. And next time, if the food is real hot, do what moms have done since the beginning of time while feeding their babies -- blow on it first, to cool it off. Good luck!

Wash your mouth out a few times a day with Crest Pro Health or another anti-bacterial / anti-plaque rinse. This will keep the bacterial count down to let it heal and help it hurt less. Also avoid really hot and/or spicy food for a while to keep it from getting irritated.

You could try some numbing medicine, like the kind they have for babies who are teething. It will take some of the pain away. Also, Choroseptic is a throat spray that you could spray on your tongue as well.

Rinse with warm salt water. That will promote healing. The good thing is that the tongue is one of the FASTEST healing parts of the human body. The other being the eyes.
