9 yr old siamese male was dianosed with hyperthyroidism - it was quite high...started him on his first 1/2 pill Monday night and half pill AM & PM since (M, T, W, Th). He has been funny acting - not sociable, not meowing, not purring. This morning after his 1/2 pill it was like he had a seizure kind of. He growled and his legs seemed to seize. Got him to vet this afternoon and they are doing an xray right now and thinking he's in heartfailure. I am so upset - could it be the meds? They say probably not - isn't that a bit of a coincidence? Any suggestions - please help - I'm afraid he's going to die. They could barely get a temperature on him....I'm soooo sad.

I'm so very sorry! We have a 15-year old cat and I was afraid of typerthyroidism or diabetes with him, but it was the beginning stages of kidney failure. He's doing well now on a special diet, with kitty drugs, but I know how frightened you were. He'll be waiting for you on Rainbow Bridge. No more pain, no more suffering.
RAINBOW BRIDGE
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Low temp further indicates Heart..
I do not think pills I think probably Hyperthyroid caused heart failure. When I was first diagnosed with Hyperthyroid (Graves Disease) The way they first found it was my heart rate was about 100 while resting and I had a very loud heart Murmur. But once we got the thyroid levels down my pulse was normal and Murmur was gone.
But I can say when I first went on Methimazole for the first couple of months the muscle spasm in my legs were like murder. Would wake me out of a dead sleep screaming in pain. Although I never had Dr tell me that it was from the meds... They did finally subside after I was given 5000 units of Vitamin D.
I hope that the heart will be fine after the meds start to lower his thyroid it might be kind of a race of sorts I am sorry.

Sorry about your kitty. However, if he's had a thyroid condition for a long time without being diagnosed, it could have already done too much damage for the pills to start working. Thyroid meds don't start working immediately, usually it takes a month or more for the body to adjust to them and work with the pills--and often the level of medication has to be adjusted depending on how each individual body reacts. They thyroid "controls" such an extensive amount of things in our bodies--from how gums hold the teeth in to the heart and brain and temperature, etc. If not treated soon enough, your body damages itself severely (and will eventually kill you). That's what it sounds like happened.

I am so sorry for your loss. It is frustrating when our animals get sick and we don't know what to do. It's so hard to know if the vet did all they could, you can only hope. My heart goes out to you, we have 3 cats, and 3 dogs, and when one of them isn't well, I am devastated. For you to have to go thru that is very sad. Perhaps, in time, you'll be able to find another companion, it helps so much. Best of luck to you , and I'll say a little kitty prayer for your baby.

Male cats that are actually not neutered strengthen what's time-commemorated as stud tail. it particularly is a oily build up on the tail base. that is not risky. on the different hand entering into and out of the muddle pan may be an illustration of a urinary tract an infection or worse a urethral obstruction. The obstruction might make it so no urine might pass and can be deadly. Is he vocalizing? Is he licking his prepuce (penile section)? in case you palpate his abdomen and slide your hand in the direction of his tail do you sense a water balloon or ball merchandise if so as which would be his bladder., and you'll be able to desire to seek for scientific interest right this moment.

If you have the name of the medication he was on I would look on the web and research side effects etc. If you feel that the vet is wrong than I would get a second opinion just so your mind is at ease.. ...
I really hope things work out... I'm so sorry your cat is sick.
Good luck
