in fengshui, it is not that simple. though there are books that claim otherwise. and it all boils down to what fengshui concept are you using. if you are using 8 mansions concept, then you use your birthdate to get your kua and get the good direction. if you are using flying stars, you calculate what chart do you prefer, as there are many configurations in period 8 (which is now, from 2004 until 2023). there are many more concepts out there, you can use to base the facing of your house. do note that there are specific degrees/ directions that we call void lines or empty lines. when your house faces this by accident, the occupants tend to become criminals or have a very bad life! and there are so many of this; most of the time, the difference is just half a degree.
the thing with fengshui is that it is never easy. and most people want an easy fix. but there is just no shortcuts. you really do need a master or someone who had studied it, and has experience in it. because it is one thing to study, it is another to practice it and how to apply the concepts/ configurations in real life.

I had a similar situation 6 years ago. The house i moved in, i had hired a feng shui expert to give recommendation to rearrange the whole house and furnitures. They had told us, the front door should not face directly at the street, so i block the front entrance and use the side door as the main entrance. The front door and back exit should not lined up in a straight line. The bed head rest area should face north. Your house should not be facing a dead end. Whether i works or not, it doesn't hurt to try. But i can tell u, my good fortune, health, financial situation has been a positive aspect of my life for the past 6 years.

I've heard it should face north to northeast.
