Is tax season really incredibly busy for an accountant?

I know it sounds obvious but for anyone who is an accountant or know one or dates one, how busy is tax season for you?

My brother is a CPA. His wife and kids hardley see him between New Years and April 15th. Then they take off for 6 weeks to get re-acquainted.

Well, to give you some idea, I had three different guys break up with me during tax season because I didn't have enough time to spend with them, and when I was with them, I wasn't enough fun because I was too tired (jerks!!).

Anyway, tax season is bad only for accountants that actually do tax work. There are plenty of accountants in public practice that don't do taxes, so their schedule is pretty normal.

FYI, most accounting firms require the people in their tax departments to work a minimum of 60 hours a week, and most work around 70. Ah, the good old days!

If your BF is a tax accountant be patient. It is that busy. Most accountants make the majority of their money in the time frame up to 4/15.

For accountants involved in preparing taxes, it doesn't get any busier. On the other hand, the majority of accountants are actually NOT involved in tax preparation. MOST accountants are employed in accounting departments of various companies and are more concerned with next month's budget than with taxes.
