I like to drink green tea for the high level of antioxidants it provides. Green tea is naturally a little bitter, if I add sugar to it, does it reduce the antioxidant effects?

Yes...sugar is like acid...it eats away all the good stuff.

Ever put a tooth in a bowl of sugar water...same thing..it just eats it.

I don't believe it counteracts the benefits, but it does add the negatives of processed sugar. Perhaps a little honey or raw sugar would be a slightly more healthful choice. Artificial sweetners are easier on your teeth and less harmful in some ways, but they are starting to find problems and side effects they were not previously aware of--with aspartame, in particular. So far, Splenda seems to be the current better choice of artificial sweetners--artificial is the key word, here, though, because natural is usually the best way to go. The need to sweeten everything is an American habit that has contributed to our high obesity rate. Try learning to like it without any sweetner--maybe you can acquire the taste. Try some different brands, they do not all taste alike. Personally, I think the slight bitterness is acutally very refreshing.

You might like to check out 'stevia' which a natural low calorie sweetener made from a plant. It is sweeter than sugar and is said to have health benefits with no known side effects. Unlike the artificial sweeteners widely available.

Stevia is even recommended for people with diabetes.

I would recommend that you look at this web page - http://bodyecology.com/stevia.php/ which explains the economic/political reasons why this substance has not been widely promoted in America.

I first bought it in a health food shop in America. It looks like a refined sugar and a little goes a long way. I never heard of it before in my own country.

If you do a search you'll find a lot of information about it which would appear to back up the claims about the product. And I can tell you from personal experience that while it tastes a little different from sugar it certainly is sweet.
