The state of Arizona is taking measures to ensure it continues
to crackdown on illegal aliens. Border apprehensions are down
30% in Arizona,( they are crossing into other states) but the rising number of border deaths has
officials concerned. The Arizona House of Representatives
passed a bill Thursday, allowing the state’s Governor to deploy
the Arizona National Guard should a State of Emergency be
declared.
And unlike the federal plan, the state legislation
allows the Arizona National Guard to apprehend illegal aliens.

What are your views on this? Good or Bad ?

What else do you think should be done ?

I think that it is a plan that many border states need to look into putting into place as well.

Something has to be done. The drain on the states involved is getting to the breaking point.

What needs to be done - is the federal government step up and enforce the federal laws on immigration and quit trying to say they can't when they are not even trying.

I can tell you that around the Houston area, we are having more I.C.E. arrests of illegals. I approve of that. My concern is that they also need to start moving down south to cut it off at the source - the southern border. Local police need to be able to arrest those that they come in contact with in their day to day duties and enforce the known laws. Then I.C.E. needs to pick those people up and ship them not just over the border - but deep within their home country so as not to have them coming over the next night again.

Point is that we need to stop making the border a revolving door. The southern border needs to be a locked door till the countries south of us are willing to do something about their own citizens coming to the United States and breaking our laws. Till they do that - the door needs to be LOCKED.

I find it exceedingly sad that a state should have to take on the role of the federal government. I also see it being fraught with danger. It may well set off a powder keg of trouble, even if all the National Guard does is carry out lawful, reasonable orders.

I hope I'm wrong and I hope it works. Clearly Arizona has had enough, which should send a message to Washington. Is it too much to hope that Arizona's senior Senator can carry that message?

As to what else can be done, this is a federal issue and it is hard for states to do things which may impinge upon federal authority. Other than passing laws which make it impossible for illegals (and their supporters, such as businesses employing illegals) to function, it is hard to see what else can usefully be done, short of mass protest. That has yet to come but it is not too far off.

Excellent plan. The other Southern States that share Mexican border should follow example. This should have been done a long time ago. And before the drama queens cry out "RACIST!!" at my comment, I welcome all Mexicans to come here...as long as they do it legally and pay their taxes.

Its a soldiers duty to defend our country and defending the border is part of it.

Just to add my 2 cents, fine all companies that hire illegal aliens $1,000 per illegal employee. That would set them straight in no time.
