Went to control panel and my computer. Clicked show hidden files. Found Default User. What is that for? The icon said Default user then -ntuser.dat then text doc then 1 KB. I clicked on it and it was all in code. See below.

.dat is data

Default user is an NT setup primarily for a business network. You have a default profile so that every computer on the network has a standard set of programs everyone in the company uses, like Word, Excell, an Email system like Outlook, etc.)

Any nerd can google "dat file type". But the first answer is correct, it stands for data and should not be touched.

dat file short for "data file" a record of an item in your computer.
