Grandparents always love fun pictures of their grandchildren so a nice photo in a frame, or put on the side of a mug or similar would probably go down well. They tend to not be in much need of material things so personalised stuff is appreciated more. A picture of your son and grandad (or even dad) together would be better still.

If there is nothing he really needs why not put together a photo
album of friends & family past & present. Failing that get a nice vintage bottle of booze. Good luck!

Family photos are always nice. Why not get him a pedicure at a salon? I bet he would love the treatment and at his age, he could really use it. (not necessarily getting nails painted, but feet massaged and soaked).
