im a freshman (14) and he's a year younger in 8th grade
he told me he likes me and we're really good friends...but im not sure how weird it would be if we started dating
he's asked me to out before, but ive declined, cause i felt that it would be awkward

Of course it is OK. Perfectly alright.
The more important question is, how do you feel about him? Why do you think it would be feel weird to date him? My guess is it has nothing to do with his age. You probably think he is immature or maybe your feeling pressure from friends.
What would you do if he asked you out and you didn't know his age? What if you didn't know your age? How old would you both feel then?
If you want to date him, date him. If you don't like him that way then be honest and tell him. He will appreciate your honesty either way and you can both get on with your lives.

OMG theres nothing wrong with dating a guy younger than you. I would if he was nice. I mean i'm going through the same thing only a little different. I like him hes the year older than me. I don't understand though. Guys have like a code u cna't date someone younger than u. but u should !

it doesn't matter what other people think. avoid the high school stupidity and gossip. one year apart is perfectly ok. my parents are 24 years apart.
