I am an athlete and I have to wear a ponytail when I play. But it seems that my hair always breaks off in the middle of my head were the ponytail was. Even if it is loose...why doesn't it break where the band is rubbing.....Why the middle?

Ok.....when I take my ponytail down and seperate my hair down the middle. The hair in the spot where the ponytail was is broken off....I have tried moving my ponytail around but I don't want it to be broken all over my head.....

Do not use elastic band in your hair and the bands are too tight putting to much tension on the hair strand causing breakage. Use cloth scrunchies instead of elastic it will take some time for you to see a difference because the damaged hair will have to grow out but you will see results. You may also try coating the hair where the scrunchies goes with hair gel this will strengthen the hair and cause less damage and help with growing your hair out.

I'm not sure what you mean by the middle.. but it's a cause of a couple of things (possibly).

1. You're tying it too tight sometimes, and the hair gets caught
2. We lose about 50-100 hairs a day, so it might just be naturally coming off
3. Nutrition deficiency - it seems like your hair isn't strong enough or healthy enough to withhold the pressure of a hairband. Try taking Omega-3 vitamins and Vitamin E to strengthen your hair (also helps your skin & nails)
4. It could be that it's not breaking off per se, but that the hair that is growing back after it falls out, happens to have grown in the past couple of months, and could be sticking out at that point, so it looks like it has broken off.

I know what you mean, usually it means that you're wearing your ponytail too tight.
