Usually the dogs love the agility events. They are all raring to go. It doesn't harm the dog, and if they like it, then why not?

Most dogs enjoy agility. The dogs that reach the standard required at Crufts are keen and enthusiastic. One of the problems with these dogs is controlling them and ensuring that they do not injure themselves because of their over-enthusiasm.

Any dog that was fearful or reluctant to jump would not be likely to be successful in competition at the lower levels and would never have any real chance of getting to Crufts so be assured the dogs are really enjoying themselves.

Incidentally one of my dogs, a Border Collie, didn't like agility at all and was completely hopeless at it. She likes the atmosphere though and is more than happy to sit on the sidelines and cheer the other dogs on!

My Border Collie loves agility and when we go to training classes for agility all the dogs we meet love agility as well and trust me there would be no way you could force a dog into doing agility because the dog would not enjoy it and if a dog is not enjoying it then it would not preform for you and forcing the dog to do agility will make the dog dislike even more

No it is not. The dogs absolutely love it.!!!!! Most of the dogs that take part in the agility are working dogs, who are by nature "workaholics"!! Agility is the ideal exercise for them, what more could a dog ask for..................fun,work,and play!!! Great! By the way, my Border Collie can jump over SIX FEET,a metre is nothing to him!

dogs are capable of far, far harder trials than they'll ever face in a dog-show such as crufts. the only cruel thing about pedigrees (cats, as well as dogs) is the inbreeding to keep the lines pure. (& i hope we all know the problems involved with incest, though i believe/hope that responsible breeders do everything in their power to minimise this). that said, i reckon crufts is harmless for the most part. the owners get to show off their dogs. the dogs get a good day's exercise/fun. all are happy. just watch the dogs. they have a rare old time.

Maximum height EVER asked for in agility is 30 inches or about 760 cm not more than a meter and that is only for the tallest dogs - shorter dogs jump less. Yes most dogs love it - it's all OFF LEAD how in heck are you gonna force them????

1 metre height is nothing really, and if a dog didn't enjoy it you couldn't force it! I have 4 dogs, 3 GSD's and a Border Collie and all of them are capable of jumping a 5 bar gate and the GSD's can scale a 5 foot fence without a run up!

I dont think its nessacarily cruel,no matter what dog show you go to,theres always going to be the cruel owners who are only interested in winning.I do think the kennel club should be more responsive in breeding dogs to be healthier, not just for the way they look. The majority of dogs are well looked after and happy doing there thing, but i have heard horrible stories of poisining, violence, and even abondement at shows such as crufts.I cant wait untill the docking plan is under way, dogs are meant to be natural and a tail is a very important tool for body language,so thats great news.
