It depends on the police department. They each have a different hiring process.

I would have to say no.
My local papers police report this past week stated that someone had been arrested for possession of cannabis, he also possessed a glass PURPLE pipe for smoking cannabis. If you are colorblind you will never know the color of drug paraphernalia.
If you do not know the color of the paraphernalia how can someone with small amounts of drugs ever be placed in prison with rapists and murderers?

Different police departments have different requirements. However, it would probably be very difficult for you to get hired if you are colorblind. There are probably some small departments somewhere where you could get hired.

It depends on the severity of the color blindess and the agencies hiring requirements. I work with a officer who is somewhat color blind, it does not affect his job performance.

Usually not. Each department/agency will have their own restrictions, but generally, being color blind will disqualify you.
