I'm interested in getting some GPS coordinates put on me, at the top of my left forearm. I don't know why, but the coordinates would be of significance because they would be places that are dear to me like London which is where I was born, and Hong Kong where I spent some time growing up.

What do you think? The numbers themselves would be 7 digits in all, then the various degrees and Ns and Ss to denote latitude etc.

ETA: thanks all for the advice so far, but I'm actually interested in getting opinions from people with tattoos rather than telling me to leave my body alone.

The optimum word in that sentence was MY.

I think that's one of the most original tattoos I've ever heard of. I really like that it isn't cliche and girly like a butterfly or a heart, and it's significant to you. Plus, it won't ever change :) Unlike a boyfriend's name or something.

If you're looking for very small it could be quite nice without being too showy (if that's the intent).

*Purely* from a personal perspective I'd want to have along with, or maybe even instead of, is two landmarks from each area merged into the same tattoo. Perhaps the GPS code semi-hidden in that tattoo somewhere?

I tend to agree with Blair & others that real estate can an issue, but the most important factor is what you prefer. Your idea is cool & unique.

That's a really original and cool idea! Tattoos are a way to be individual, but you see so many nautical star etc. tattoos that it's almost more original now a days to not get tattoos. That's really great idea, though. It's not something that you like today and might wake up tomorrow and not like (like a band or your gf/bf's name). I say go for it! That's a really great location I think, too. It might hurt a little worse than someplace a little more fleshier, but it shouldn't be as bad as the ribs or something. Good luck, and post pictures and a link if you end up getting it, I know a bunch of people would love to see.

I think it sounds really cool! And I like that it has personal significance to you.
I would suggest having your artist draw out the design a couple different ways, unless you already have something in mind- are you going to have the numbers incorporated into a picture or just have the numbers in script? I'm curious how you will have it laid out- the one drawback to having it on your forearm is that you'd always have to wear long or 3/4 sleeves if you needed to cover it for work. I have a really big tattoo but I put it on my back so that it is easy to conceal if I need to. But it sounds like you have taken some time to think about what you want, and if that's where you want to put your art- go for it!

how would the coordinates be seven digits? i work with a helicopter service and our coordinates have atleast 8 digits. for example here in louisiana it would be something like 32 49 by 93 27 which is 8 digits. and that isn't even counting measuring by seconds. anyway...
i think it's a good idea because it is something special to you. it's not something i would get, i like more artsy stuff but if that is something you'd be happy with then i say good for you!

Exactly right. It is YOUR body and you can do whatever you like with it. Personally, I think your idea would be totally cool - in the chill zone, in fact - esp. as it has so much meaning for you.

I see some of the people on here are attempting to force their beliefs on to you. Don't let them - if you want a tattoo, go for it.

It's your body; do what you feel. That is very original! Good luck. Tattoos dont really hurt. Just feels like a cat scratching you over and over. You get used to it about 10 min after the tattooist gets started...

I think it's a great idea, I would love to see it when it's done. You could incorperate some of the other ideas here if you wanted to, like have the numbers worked into an image.....

Good luck and enjoy the experience!

if it's significant then its good.
people should get a tattoo that's meaningful because they are going to have it for the rest of their lives.
i have a tattoo of a calla lilly which is a flower that is a recurring image in diego rivera's paintings and i got the initials of my husband. so....if it's meaningful then it is a good idea. just think about it location and if it will interfere with job interviews, etc.

I have 6 tattoos and none of them really hurt. I would be sure to eat before hand so you'll be less likely to faint. And if you start to feel faint or quesy eat something with sugar like m&m's. Good luck.
