Do you speak a different language at home? If so, you might want to practice more at home. You can get your whole family involved.

What really helps me is eating out at a restaurant. You can practice more vocabulary, such as foods, thank-yous, money, and other things associated.

You can also watch children's television shows, such as "Sesame Street" and "Reading Rainbow".

You can also try it with close captionings.

Well, best of luck!

Is English your native language? Or do you speak a different one?

In any event the best way to improve your English skills would be to practice the correct vernacular of the language. In other words, no slang.

The most effective way to this would be through your thought pattern. When you think use only correct English. It has helped me a great deal.

I am an Hispanic born in New York, grew up speaking spanish, English, both (Spanglish), the black vernacular (Hip Hop), and the New York Accent (How You doing?) So as you can imagine at times it is difficult to speak correctly. But I always think in proper English no matter what vernacular I'm using...CAPISH?

If you can learn using a computer, I would recommend Rosetta Stone software. It's the best software to learn new languages. Also, you can join English speaking chatrooms on the internet and just talk to people. You can also download skype software and join an English speaking skype chat so that you can actually talk to people in English and get experience.

Spend time at the library - take out books that are written in standard English.....this is one of the best ways, as you will learn context, grammar, spelling and even some slang.

Strike up a friendship with someone who speaks English WELL....

Practice makes perfect. Speak English to all those around you. Some people get irritated, but keep trying. They will understand and respect you for trying.
