I am trying out for a solo in chorus. I had to go in front of the whole class and sing. When i got up there my heart was racing and I couldnt stop shaking. If i do get the solo i have to do it in front of all the students, teachers, and parents. What should i do?

1) Practice. You know you are awesome and can perform beautifully. You KNOW your part!

2) Focus on one person. Whether that is your mom, best friend, or random person...put them in the FRONT ROW where you can see them. Focus ONLY on them.

3) Will you be on stage? If so, you'll have a spotlight on you. You won't be able to see the audience unless you strain your eyes. If this is the case, relax. Pretend you're at home singing in your shower.

4) Do exercises before going on and remember to laugh! The less you worry, the better. You know how to sing and you know you're going to blow them out of the water. So breathe, relax, and just sing your heart out!

Try to forget about all those people. Please consider looking for a spot on a wall, or the exit sign (on the back wall) etc. to look at.Also, the more you know the words by heart, the better too. I used to be in a church choir. I would get so nervous before a special program/concert. But once out on the platform, and singing, plus the hint of looking at the back wall (over people's heads) helped. I did not do any solos, but I think if you just concentrate on the music, and the words, etc., you will do just fine. Take care.

What always helps me is when I pretend to be another person. Whether it's a person you admire or a teacher. Pick someone who is confident and relaxed in the spotlight. Eventually you won't have to pretend to be another person, in time the stage will feel like home if you keep at it.

you could focus on one point in the back of the room, over everyone's head and try to not worry what their doing focus on your performance

before you start to sing just "shake out the tension" ex. shake out your wrists, your legs, do some neck rolls, get loose

take deep breaths before you begin and try to relax yourself with breath

trust me this all works, get nervous too, EVERYONE DOES

I think Bob Hope said he used to imagine the audience was naked, it must have worked, he was always at ease where ever he performed.
