If the purpose of a Christian College is not primarily to "defend the faith," what is the purpose of a Christian college/university? In your answer consider what a Christian college is and is not; how Christian colleges and universities differ from their secular counterparts which compartmentalize religion; and, what is the religious distinctive of a Christian college or university?

The primary reason for a Christian college, such as Patrick Henry in Virginia, is to provide a Christian worldview. By doing so, you do not have students subjected to the same kind of radical indoctrination that goes on in many other colleges.

There is usually a higher academic standard at many of these such as those in South Carolina. I refer to Furman Univ., Wofford College, Erskine and also Bob Jones Univ.(I could not recommend Bob Jones because of former racial prejudice). There are many more in other states, such as Wheaton College, Notre Dame, the one associated with the Am. Center for Law and Justice(can't think of the name.) These are just a few of thousands and academics are of high standards.

A Christian College is for you to learn about your faith not to defend the faith. I'm currently attending a Christian Collage through my church to become a licensed minister.

I would expect it to be to teach people about both science and their religion.
When the Jesuits started they were meant to learn science and advance knowledge. Their position as the advisors to the Pope soon lead them into "defending the faith" by becoming a major force in suppressing research.
Early Jesuits were leaders of study, later Jesuits were leaders of the Inquisition.
The Inquisition did more damage to the Faith than science ever could.
You are seeing the same nonsense today with Liberty College making the religious look like lunatics with their support of Ken Ham or Kent Hovind(before he ended up in jail).
The Muslim Yahyah or Ha Ha or whatever his name is happens to be making the same fundamentalist play for the Muslims. He just succeeds in making Islam look stupid.
Denying science harms your faith far more than it serves it.

As I understand it... prepare for ministry and learn more about the Christian faith. I'm sure there are apologetics in Christian colleges but I doubt that's all it has to offer.
