Ok, I have a cherry plywood (pressed wood) armoire that I want to repaint (white) to match other furniture. How do I go about preparing it? Do I sand, prime, and paint like I would with wood? Also, is oil based or latex paint better to use?
I also have a metal framed futon that I would like to repaint as well. Do I need to sand it? Do I paint w/ paint brush or spray paint?
Please, serious answers only! Thanks!

this will be different than the previous answers but easier, first get a high adhesion primer ,I reccomend x-i-m , it is expensive but worth it , apply the x-i-m to the armiore and the futon frame, no need to sand or strip, the primer is so good it will give you excellent adhesion, let it dry about 6 hours and apply your top coat ,which should be an oil based industrial enamel...Valspar makes a very good anti rust enamel.

Lexie, without knowing more about the the metal table, I would guess that it had some kind of a sealant on it. Rather than wash the metal, you probably should have sanded it with a medium sanding grit. The paint should not be so easy to remove. If you were to cover the new base with a sealant, you'd probably mess up the application of theantiquingg finish the is to be rubbed over. I would suggest you try sanding down the table and then apply a primer coat, intended especially for metal in an outdoor environment. Then you could probably get away with obtaining a copper spray paint (again, intended for outdoor metal) and re-paint the metal table. Then apply the rubbed on finish according to directions. I think it would be ok to use any type of copper metal paint as you base coat---not necessarily that type that came with your kit. good luck

I don't know about the armoire but you can buy paint at Home Depot or Lowes that is for painting metal. We painted an industrial metal ladder that is in our house from green to an awesome alluminum silver color and it turned out aweome. No prep work, just paint!

Strip the finish off the cherry wood first, sand, prime and finish coat with oil based paint.

Sand, clean and spray the metal frame.
