My student loans (I double checked and his name is NOWHERE on anything that has to do with my student loans), and another debt that I incurred before I was married are showing on my husband's credit report. Why is that?

Your debts are your debts; his debts are his. They should show up on anyone else's credit reports.

You husband is doing it right by disputing them (they should only be under YOUR SSN), and they should be taken off. However, the credit reporting bureaus only make money when they report BAD stuff on your credit report! That's incentive for them to keep it on.

By law, anything that is NOT your husband's credit/debt-wise cannot go on his report. Take legal action if it isn't taken off his report at the beginning of next month. That's the only way the credit bureaus listne, sometimes.

It could be because of the data furnishers, but more than likely it was added on by the credit reporting agencies simply because your addresses match (it happens)

Have your husband dispute those accounts off of his credit reports.

edit+++++

While "bunch them all together!" may not be a great explanation, the gist of it is correct.

CRA's incorrectly add peoples tradelines to others reports everyday - the reasons could be because the names are similar, the SSN's are similar, the addresses are similar, etc., etc., etc.

I have had to dispute my sisters accounts off of my reports, and she had to dispute mine off of hers.

How the accounts end up on each others reports even though we no longer have the same last name and neither one of us has ever lived in the same states the other currently lives in is because - at one time we both had the same last name and our SSN's are similar.

Don't listen to these people who don't know about anything! If it is YOUR debt and it was incurred BEFORE you got married, it should NOT be listed on your spouse's credit report... unless you re-negotiate the terms or something like that.
They don't just "bunch them all together!"! DUH

if you guys both reside at the same address its assumed you guys are liable for each others credit. both of you guys will be bunched together because thats just the way they do it.
