There are differences for everyone- I would say that a general rule to go by is if there is more muscle/tissue in an area, it's not going to hurt as bad as somewhere with bone close to the surface. Somewhere like the top of the foot, or over the shoulderblade is going to be painful.
I think that the more important thing to think about when placing a tattoo is how that part of your body will age (think stomach- stretching...) and how the design of the tattoo will compliment the shape of the body. For instance when you think of the shoulder muscle; it's teardrop shaped, if you were to put a tattoo there you wouldn't want to put something super blocky there because it wouldn't look as good as something with a curve to it. These are things that your tattoo artist should help you with if you get one. I think that when you leave a little artistic liscence to the professional, you end up with a better piece. Just my two cents.

The general rule of thumb is that when you get a tattoo, areas with more skin or fat, basically the farthest away from the bone hurt the least. So for example, a tattoo on your upper arm would probably hurt less than on your ribs or ankle.

Hurt is transmitted to the brain or spinal cord via nerves.
so any area of the skin with the least amount of nerve endings will hurt less. Best place for least pain is the hard part of the sole of your feet :) ..but would u want to have a tatto there .. try having a tatto around ur nipples and it will hurt the most cause they have loads of nerve endings ..so you go figure out ..what area u prefer...

I don't have a tattoo, but based on where injections hurt less I would say get one on your butt.

It's gonna hurt regardless but get a place with alot of meat. My first was on my breasts, BIG MISTAKE! Try your thigh or your arm.

Anywhere that is not bony. Like a a bicep, or your hip. I have one on my shoulder and it hurt!
